Making progress!

Friends and family, Here's a status update: Dave is in his fifth day of his second round of chemo.  Laying low with exhaustion.  More here:

HUGE thanks to friends and family who have stepped up to help Dave in a moment of personal crisis. That's you Randall Winston, Dave DeYoung, Ross French, Seth Martin, Drew and Leslie Hendrickson, Walker Wright, Joshua Kagan, and Andreas Mueller!

Diedre has raised $4,900 to cover cost for Dave and his family so he doesn't have to drag himself to do carpentry while undergoing chemo. He's on his way-- but well short-- of the $30K they need to raise.

Everybody helps! Please take three minutes to give generously.

This Time its Personal

My wife Lisa was walking our dog the other day and came upon this leaflet stapled to the telephone pole down the block from our house.

Lisa was floored. Dave is a friend and neighbor, a self-employed carpenter.  A sturdy, super hard-working guy.  He's a smiling, kind presence on our block and we've become friends over the last three years. We had no idea he was battling cancer.

Lisa went to the website that Dave's wife Deidre set-up and read the following:

On Dec 8th my husband Dave had his first routine colonoscopy, at the age of 60. He generally always feels fine and healthy. On December 18th we got the diagnosis that Dave had Colon cancer. Since then our lives have been a whirlwind.

Preparation for surgery 3 weeks later brought Dave's work in his business to a frenzy, and then to a complete halt. Surgery involved removing the entire ascending Colon and all connected lymph nodes; the pathology report showed that 4 lymph nodes were involved, and the tumor was through the intestinal wall and into the local blood vessels. Recovery from the surgery was slower than we thought it would be, and the oncologist wanted to wait a couple more weeks so that he'd be stronger, since she felt she needed to do a more aggressive chemo protocol. He had his first round of chemo this last Wednesday, it'll be 3 days of drugs every other week, for 6 months.

Dave has been building his business for the last 6 years as a furniture restoration expert and furniture builder. So far over the past 2 months, even with the help of our son in the shop for a month, Dave’s business has ground almost to a complete halt. This has all hit just as the flow of work was the most abundant! There's plenty of work coming in, but not the health and vitality with which to do it. I'm not able to support us both with my income, and we don't know how effective he’ll be able to be in the shop for the duration of the chemo treatments, or the necessary recovery time after the treatments are over in September.

We're hoping to raise enough funds that he won't have to force himself to try to work and worry about money, when what he needs to focus on is rest and healing through this hard time.

Tomorrow we will get a report from the Dr on the full cavity CT scan he had last Friday and we’re hoping she'll say nothing else was visible!

We do appreciate  all the help we get. Thanks to everyone!
Dave and Deirdre

So... it's time for me to dust off my old fundraising mustache to help a neighbor in need.  Dave, we've got your back.

Friends and family, can you help me help Dave?  My goal is to secure 100 donations or $5,000 to provide funds to allow Dave to rest from his daily carpenter work in order to recover from chemo and fight the cancer.

Can you help?  Any contribution makes a real difference to this wonderful guy.

Just click here to donate to Dave's expenses.  Three minutes later, you've made a difference in Dave's life.

THANK YOU for your generosity!
